Every day, OREA is at Queen’s Park, in front of MPPs and decision makers standing up for REALTORS®. With so much at stake, REALTORS® need to be one of the strongest lobby groups In Ontario – that’s what OREA is working to achieve.
We’ve doubled-down on our government relations efforts to protect REALTORS® from government action. We emboldened our members to get involved in driving policy changes through the creation of the Ontario REALTOR® Party. In 2017, we were louder and bolder than ever before, and it paid off.

The real estate industry is regulated by the provincial government. Ontario REALTORS® therefore, need a strong voice at Queen’s Park that can stand up for the profession and work with policy makers on issues that matter to REALTORS®.
In 2017 we launched the Ontario REALTOR® Party to ensure our 70,000 members speak with one voice loud enough to promote the dream of home ownership and protect the profession.
It’s working. The REALTOR® voice is stronger than ever before. And we’re getting results.
In 2017 alone:
- OREA stopped a push by the province to ban multiple representation and protected a consumer’s right to work with the REALTOR® of their choice
- OREA won a commitment from the province to modernize REBBA to increase professional standards and help REALTORS® do business better
- We protected an exemption for real estate brokerages under the Employment Standards Act that will save our members thousands of dollars every year
2017 was a successful year for our lobbying efforts, but there are more issues on the horizon that will have serious consequences for the real estate profession. Standing together on these issues will make us stronger.
